Andrea Friedman is based in Seattle, Washington where they work at KEXP and serve as a Seattle Music Commissioner. Andrea has always loved music, but they first experienced music as community and the power of DIY during their time at UC Davis where they were a DJ at KDVS and an avid attendee of house shows. After completing their B.S. in Community & Regional Development, they moved to Seattle in 2012 where they quickly became involved in the local music scene in both professional and volunteer capacities. Andrea was the Talent Buyer at nonprofit all-ages venue The Vera Project from 2014 to 2017 and a founding member of the TUF arts collective where they planned the annual TUFFEST music and arts festival from 2016 to 2020. They have also worked on other community-driven arts endeavors like Refill, a benefit show for artists impacted by COVID-19, and Corridor, an experimental music, installation and dance festival. Andrea currently works as the Education & Volunteer Engagement Manager at KEXP where they create opportunities for folks of all ages to explore interests, learn new skills, and expand their understanding of careers in the creative economy.
